Ending a tenancy in Australian Capital Territory

Whether you need a reason to end it, which reasons count, and how much notice each one takes.

The rule in ACT

Ending a tenancy — no-cause evictions abolished; prescribed ground + evidence required (move-in/sale = 8 weeks; renovation = 12 weeks; other use = 26 weeks)

Statutory basis: RTA 1997 (ACT) Sch 1 cl 96(1)
Form: Notice to vacate (prescribed ground)

How ACT compares

The same question, answered by each state and territory. A period that is right in ACT is wrong two borders over — which is most of the reason this is worth looking up rather than remembering.
